Deep Cleaning Before Christmas: How to Plan It
December is the month your home works hardest. The oven has to handle the duck, the roast pork and the risalamande. The fridge has to hold a whole Christmas Eve’s shopping. Guests use the bathroom, and the good plates come down from the top cupboards.
Many of our customers want the home fully in order before all that starts. That’s exactly what a deep clean is for, and it’s much easier when it’s planned in good time.
When should you book?
Our advice is to book in October or early November and schedule the clean itself one to three weeks before your first guests arrive. That way the oven and fridge are ready for the Christmas shopping, and you still have time to keep things tidy with your regular cleaning until Christmas.
November and December are busy months for everyone in cleaning. The earlier you book, the easier it is to get the day that fits your calendar.
What should a pre-Christmas deep clean cover?
A deep clean covers everything regular cleaning doesn’t reach. Before Christmas, these are the places that make the biggest difference:
The oven. We do the whole oven: racks, bottom, sides, door and glass. Baked-on grease is loosened with steam and the right cleaning agents. It’s a good idea before Christmas, when the oven will run for hours, and an oven that looks ready to be replaced often just needs a thorough clean.
Range hood and grease filters. The grease filters in the range hood collect fat all year. When they’re clean, the hood extracts better, and you’ll notice it when there’s a duck roasting in the kitchen.
The fridge. We empty the shelves and drawers, wash them thoroughly and include the door seals and drip tray. That’s often where smells come from. Ideally, book the clean just before your big Christmas shop, so there’s a clean fridge with room for the food.

The bathroom. Limescale on tiles, glass screens, taps and the toilet is removed thoroughly, and the grout is cleaned. Apart from the living room, it’s the room your guests see most.
Cupboards and drawers. We wipe the inside of kitchen cupboards and other cupboards, so the good plates and the Christmas decorations come out onto clean shelves.
Walls and floor tiles. Fingerprints around switches and door frames, grease splashes in the kitchen and dirty grout in the hallway. Small things, but they’re what people notice when guests arrive.

Include the windows
The low December sun shows every streak on the glass, and in the dark months you want all the light you can get. That’s why many customers combine the deep clean with window cleaning, so both are done in one go. Read more in our post on window cleaning in autumn and winter.
Or wait until January
Scheduling the deep clean after Christmas is a perfectly sensible choice too. By January the oven has done its work, the decorations are packed away, and your home gets a thorough start to the new year. If you only want one deep clean, pick the moment you’ll get the most out of it.
The 2026 service deduction
Deep cleaning is covered by the Danish servicefradrag. In 2026 you can deduct up to DKK 18,300 per person in labour costs for household services, and the tax value is around 26%. The deduction applies per calendar year, and unused deduction can’t be carried over to the next year. If the work is done and paid in December, it counts towards 2026. You pay digitally and report the amount yourself. Our servicefradrag 2026 guide explains how.
A good start to a regular plan
Many of our regular customers started with a deep clean. That way their regular cleaning starts from a thorough baseline, and the home is easier to keep tidy afterwards. With us you get the same cleaner every time, so it’s someone who already knows your home.
